Capacity Building of the Directorate for Water
Beneficiary institutions and other authorities and actors involved
The central governmental structure in Serbia, related to water, is the Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management (MAFWM).

The Directorate for Water (WD) is an integral part of the MAFWM that is subdivided into five departments. The tasks of the WD include water use and protection, strategic planning and analysis, international cooperation and water inspection – all of those in close cooperation with a network of water companies.

The surface and groundwater monitoring has been delegated to the Hydro-meteorological Institute of the Republic of Serbia (Hydromet). The monitoring and reporting system is in a process of change and is to be upgraded to approach WFD and Eurowaternet standards.

Twinning Project: Beneficiary Institutions


JVP "Srbijavode" (Public Water Management Company "Serbia Waters") was set up to implement the water management activity, including three water management centers (Dunav, Sava, Morava). The structure was altered in 2001 with the creation of the Provincial Secretariat of Agriculture, Water Management, and Forestry and the setting up of the new JVP ''Vode Vojvodine''. Field activities are carried out by 45 companies, under contractual arrangements with JVP ''Srbijavode'' and "Vode Vojvodine"
